Where is the Amalfi Coast?

While there is no airport in Amalfi Coast itself, there is one in the nearby city of Naples. There are several ways to get to the Amalfi Coast from the surrounding cities, and, because of this, it is important to know how to get there from each of the big towns nearby so that you can be best prepared.
Naples to Amalfi Coast
If you fly into Naples and need to get from Naples to the Amalfi Coast, the easiest way to get there is by taxi and train combination, taxi only, or rideshare. The distance between Naples and Amalfi Coast is a mere 36 km, so taking the train and taxi duo won’t cost too much. If you do choose to take the train and taxi, the travel time will be around an hour and a half. However, if you choose to take just a taxi, the cost will be a little higher, but the travel time will be cut by around thirty minutes. Finally, if you choose to go with rideshare with other travelers, this will be the least expensive form or traveling, but it will also take the longest.
Rome to Amalfi Coast
If you are trying to get to Amalfi Coast from Rome, the travelling will be a little rougher. As is with Naples, there are a few different ways to get from Rome to Amalfi Coast such as private car services, train, and ferry. If you choose to take a private car service, you will have to pay a hefty amount, but they will show you all of the scenic routes along the way. If you choose to take the train, otherwise known as the Trenitalia or Italo, you will have to take it to Naples then catch a bus. Finally, if you choose the Ferry route, which is only available between April and September, you will see all of the coastlines, but they do get booked fast and aren’t very cheap.
Florence to Amalfi Coast
Finally, if you are travelling from Florence to Amalfi Coast, this is the farthest travelling distance at just over 500km. The quickest way to get from Florence to Amalfi Coast is to take a flight to Naples then take one of the transportation methods mentioned prior from Naples to Amalfi Coast. If you don’t want to do that, you can take a train, bus, or car, but all of these will take a lot of travel time and money. There is no quick and inexpensive way to get from Florence to Amalfi Coast, so you will just have to decide which way best suits you and your family.
How to Get Around the Amalfi Coast
Because the Amalfi Coast is such a jagged and rugged coastline full of cities and things to see, it is important to plan out how you are going to get around while there if you do not have a car. If possible, the best way to get around the Amalfi Coast is by foot, though this may not be realistic for everyone.
If you have older kids that can walk and handle inclines, traveling the coastline by foot is the best way to see and take in everything there is to see in the cities. If you have children or strollers with you, however, walking through the cities by foot may be quite the challenge because of the hills and cliffs, so you may want to consider renting a car.
If you want to travel from city to city on the coastline, the best way to do so is by renting a car since the Amalfi Coast does stretch a total of 34 miles. Within these 34 miles are a multitude of cities and towns that you can stop at and walk through. With a car, you have the freedom to go to whatever city on the coastline that you want to go to. Plus, the drive along this coastline is described to be one of the most beautiful view on earth. With this comes its own issues as well. If you are one that does not feel comfortable driving along cliffs, this may be a bit uncomfortable for you, so do be warned of that.
Weather in Amalfi Coast
When travelling, it is always important to take into account the weather, and this is especially true for a coastline. If you want to visit during the hot summer months, then plan on going during the months of June, July, August, and September where the temperature ranges from 82 degrees Fahrenheit to 90 degrees Fahrenheit, so it is quite warm. The cold winter season are the months of November, December, January, February, and March when the temperature varies between 50 degrees Fahrenheit to 65 degrees Fahrenheit. It can feel even much colder along the coast.
The best time to go to the Amalfi Coast is during the in-between months. These periods run between mid-September to late October as well as during the months of April, May, and June. The temperature during these months usually remains consistently between 65 degrees Fahrenheit and 80 degrees Fahrenheit, so it is neither too hot nor too cold.
