Interested? You may just find that Santorini has more to offer than you thought! It’s a lot more than one of the best islands in the world, one of the most romantic places in the world, a great place for a warm winter escape, and one of the most the best places for a family vacation. It is a place that kids will also love. This is our ultimate kid-friendly guide to Santorini:
1. Visit a Black Sand Beach
Even if your kids have gone to the beach before, it’s likely they’ve never gone to a black sand beach. And if they have, they’ve certainly never seen sand like that of Santorini. The beautiful black sand beaches on this island are a marvel to look at (even if they can get pretty hot in the afternoon). We recommend hitting the waves early.
Without the proper gear, the black Santorini sand can literally burn your feet, so make sure to wear aqua socks and take necessary precautions before you go. Not sure where to start? We recommend a trip to Perissato give your kids the ultimate beach experience. This beach offers some of the best views in Santorini (but keep in mind that the water can get deep in places).
2. Tour Oia and Thira
There are few things more beautiful than cobble-stoned, Greek streets.Take your kids on a trip around beautiful Oia and Thira and let them feel the history the architecture brings. Sound boring?
Your kids will love the wonderful food found in the area. From traditional Greek options to desserts your children are sure to enjoy, the area is the perfect place to do some shopping and escape some of that intense beach heat.
3. Take a trip to the Santorini Water Park
While you’re enjoying the black sand of Perissa, make sure you drop by the Santorini Water Park. Located in the Meltemi Hotel, this water park is free to guests and open to visitors. Though it’s on the small side, it’s plenty big enough for your children to have some good old-fashioned fun.
With three slides and three pools, this park offers your kids a fun time that they’ll remember for years to come.
Tired of the heat? A trip to the Santorini Water Park is also a natural landing spot for when the beach gets too hot to enjoy.
4. Tour the Volcano
Did you know that much of Santorini’s landscape was forever altered by a volcanic eruption nearly four thousand years ago?Today, you can still tour this volcano and view it up close and personal.
Don’t worry—it’s completely safe. We recommend choosing a quicker tour option, however, simply because the area can get quite hot, and there won’t be much shade on your trip. Still, this is a great option for your kids, particularly if they are into science.
5. Visit Another Island
As a result of its location, Santorini is the perfect gateway to other Greek islands.Once you’ve seen all that you want to see on the island, make a quick and easy trip to the islands of Crete, Naxos, or Mykanos.
Your children will love visiting these other islands and seeing the unique history and activities they have to offer. There’s no need to worry—transportation is quick and cheap, so you don’t have to worry about breaking the bank. Make Santorini your next family vacation and visit these wonderful places for yourself!
