2. Radiator Springs Racers, Splash Mountain, and Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!
No, that isn’t a long name for just one ride; three Disneyland roller coasters tie for the second fastest at 40 mph. Radiator Springs Racers features ride vehicles that look like actual cars. If you want to experience the fictional town of Radiator Springs, climb into one of these racers and take a joyride through the desert.
Now here’s one for you log-flume-lovers. Splash Mountain is based on the 1946 film Song of the South featuring legendary characters such as Br’er Rabbit, Bre’r Fox, Bre’r Bear, and Tar Baby. Careening down steep drops and through briars at 40 mph brings back fond memories of this antiquated tale.
Lastly, if you loved the group of misfit heroes represented in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies as well as quick, breath-taking drops, you’ll love this ride. Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! features our little raccoon friend recruiting riders to help free the other guardians – and all of this takes place in an accelerated drop tower. Certainly, a Disneyland scary ride!
3. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Space Mountain
Tying with Space Mountain for third fastest at 35 mph, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad hurls its riders through an old mountain town in search of precious gold. You’ll happen upon skulls, caves, and more in this adventurous ride located in Frontierland.
If dark, indoor roller coasters are more your thing, don’t miss Space Mountain located in Tomorrowland. This ride takes you on a trip through the cosmosall while you listen to the Star Wars theme music!
4. Goofy’s Sky School and Matterhorn Bobsleds
Based on the 1940s and 50s Goofy episodes, this glider takes you three stories up into the air on a wild ride similar to your typical wild mouse rides. You’ll be gripping the sides with trepidation as the coaster jerks on each turn, threatening to almost overturn you! But that’s what learning to fly Goofy style entails!
On the other hand, the Matterhorn Bobsleds takes you on a giant alpine sledding ride at 27 mph around cliffs, rocks, caves, and dangerous precipices. And don’t forget to beware of the legendary Abominable Snowman. There are two tracks available – one on the Fantasyland side and one on the Tomorrowland side.
5. Gadget’s Go Coaster
This last one is a one of the junior roller coaster rides, but it takes juniors and adults alike on a 20-mph ride inspired by the show Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers. The story behind the ride is that the resourceful mouse character, Gadget Hackwrench, built the ride out of random parts she collected and put together to form the Go Coaster. Do you trust our little mouse’s ingenuity?
